2) Data used to calculate transport savings has come from a survey carried out by James Ross Consulting for WRAP in 2005/06, of 350 wine bottles purchased in UK off-sale outlets. The aims of the survey were to analyse packaging formats for 75cl wine bottles with regards to weight, to evaluate a business case for change and to estimate the impact on the waste stream. Analysis is based on the measurement of weight and size of bottles, and uses cost estimates for comparison with a derived current lightest weight design. The derived data is indicative only and is designed to identify potential opportunities for cost and environmental savings.
